Urban Refuge

Designed by Jacobs through design development, Grand Park in Frisco, TX, is a 1,000-acre urban refuge set to become a vibrant community space with diverse amenities for the entire community.

As Architectural Design Director, Jonathan Ginnis led the conceptualization and design evolution of all ancillary buildings and structures.

The park is divided into five districts: Civic Park, Adventure Play Area, Sports Park, Botanic Garden, and Nature Center.

Civic Park features a 5-acre pond, an event lawn for 7,500 people, rock climbing areas, a splash pad, and food truck options. The Adventure Play Area includes wetland-inspired playgrounds and interactive play spaces for families. The architecture of Grand Park integrates regional materials, harmonizing with the natural landscape. Structurally expressive shade structures rise from the earth, echoing the silhouettes of the hill country. The design also incorporates renewable energy and rainwater management systems, enhancing sustainability and efficiency. These elements contribute to the park’s seamless blend with its environment. The guiding principles emphasize play, exploration, discovery, and connection, promoting community interaction and growth.
